It’s probably worth writing something here to explain this introductory Cornelius cartoon, seeing as unsuspecting visitors to the Mad Owl website, having clicked on the big ‘first’ button out of curiosity, are now struck with this horrifically amateurish maiden attempt at drawing a cartoon.
When I rebooted the Mad Owl website in 2011, I was highly tempted to dispose of the first 24 Cornelius cartoons and start afresh from what has become . But I decided not to, simply because I like to show the evolution of a cartoon. And there are a couple of mildly amusing moments in the first couple of dozen strips, albeit after you’ve adjusted your eyes to the look of the cartoon. I was learning how to draw on a graphics tablet, which isn’t that straightforward if you’re a klutz and you don’t know what you’re doing.
I quite like the curvy background in the first panel though. A shame it’s obscured by a mutant Cornelius with boneless jelly arms and hands.
